According to the two models, Record Lifecycle (Kennedy & Schauder, 1994) and Record Continuum (McKemmish, 1997), they both suggest that information is kept despite of the incredibly huge cost. For example, for the technical invention of the new smartphone functions, the main reason for the hugh cost is that these information materials are also valuable. Particularly refering to Record Continuum (McKemmish, 1997), what “Dimension 4: Ensure societal memory” mentions about is exactly the case of smartphone phone retailers. Technical invention of smartphone is expensive, not only the acquisition cost, but also the maintenance cost (e.g. trips and instruments, etc.).
