Insurance Arrangement

Situation 

 

Insurance brokers need to handle many clients’ information. 7Rs of Information Management is applied to explain how they arrange the most suitable insurance for clients.

 

The 7Rs of Information Management is a model about information processing and creation of knowledge. As shown the figure below, some processes are performed by individuals while others are performed by organization. Insurance brokers act as intermediaries between clients, who can be either individuals or commercial businesses and organisations, and insurance companies.

 

 

 

In this case, insurance brokers retrieve client's information (e.g. account, age, career, salary, etc.), read it, recognize it and re-interpret it to give it some new meaning, while insurance brokers perform the job of reviewing, releasing and restructuring of those materials to make sure it is accessible to and suitable for users.

 

Meanwhile, the 7Rs of Information Management talks about the creation of knowledge and it is also applicable to insurance arrangement. After viewing the personal information of clients, insurnace brokers can find out the clients' insurance needs and assess their risks. They may gain some subjective knowledge such as linking certain clients' insurance needs to suitable products (e.g. linking sickness, health, retirement to medical and accident insurance, etc.)

 

After such linkage, they will do some administrative tasks such as writing reports and keeping detailed records, which means subjective knowledge is converted to public knowledge. At that time, insurance brokers may review these reports again (public knowledge) to see if it can be converted to validated knowledge and stored in client database.

 

If the insurance plans that the insurance brokers choose (validated knowledge) are suitable for clients after evaluation, the final insurance plans will be released for sales. At this point, these insurance plans enter the knowledge domain for which insurance brokers and clients can retrieve.

 

Finally, those insurance plans may be re-structured in insurance company through data warehousing or indexing and store in information system for users to retrieve. When it is retrieved, they will become the relevant knowledge for users.
