Data collection centres need to interview the general public to collect information for research and analysis. In this episode, the information flow is explained with models to show how they communicate and exchange information successfully.

Shannon-Weavor Communication Model

Shannon-Weaver communication model can be applied to many situations. For the case of data collection, two examples are provided below and they would possibly happen in the process of data collection. One example is telephone interview and the other is online survey. Both of the two cases need different encoder and decoder, as well as cable and modem for channel.

In order to have a successful communicate and get the most accurate information, eliminating the noise as much as possible is important in the process of collecting data. Therefore, some possible solutions are suggested below.

  • Adopt a reliable system and internet service provider to reduce system error and network connection problem

  • Display and explain the survery and interview questions clearly

  • Hire interviewers with higher educated level

  • Provide professional training to interviewers

  • Randomly choose some educated interviewees to do the research
